Why I prefer to stay angry.

We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business.

This is how I feel on my most cynical of days. That our world is merely a marketplace set up to preserve the institution of money, not necessarily ideas or even the well-being of people.

But then I remember Howard Beale, whose revelations about the Establishment always remain relevant.

We deal in illusions, man. None of it is true! … In God’s name, you people are the real thing. We are the illusion.

And I realize I’d rather be like Sisyphus and the rock, constantly pushing back against the all-encompassing status quo. Not acting as a passive vehicle for its lies and limitations.

You’ve got to say, “I’m a HUMAN BEING, God damn it! My life has VALUE!”

I’d rather get mad from time to time. I need to for the sake of my sanity. I can’t accept the world as a soulless corporation - to do so would render me “humanoid” and essentially lifeless.
